Toes tapped and tummies filled at
Sevierville’s second annual Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass event May
19 and 20 in downtown Sevierville. Despite inclement weather, 15,000
event goers turned out according to event officials, with approximately
4,000 on Friday and around 11,000 on Saturday. “The weather did have
some impact on attendance,” says Sevierville Chamber of Commerce
Director of Sales Scott King, “but those who came on out to the event
had a great time.”
Many attendees turned out for the
world-class entertainment including the Grascals concert on Friday
night and Ricky Skaggs’ performance on Saturday. New elements such as
the floral demonstrations provided by Sevier County High School and the City of Sevierville added to the event.
Besides the concerts and demonstrations,
competitions also made up much of Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass.
Fifty cook teams attended the Tennessee State Championship Barbeque
Cook-Off held during the event, with HomeBBQ.com from Oviedo, FL, claiming Grand Champion and Late Night Whiskey Smokers from Lynchburg, TN,
taking Reserve Grand Champion. The Mountain Soul Vocal Competition was
also a hot contest with great singers from a variety of states belting
out Dolly Parton tunes
“Thank you
to everyone who helped make this event possible,” says Sevierville
Chamber of Commerce Marketing Coordinator Amanda Maples Marr. “We look
forward to next year’s Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass on May 18 and
19, 2007.”
