Whether returning to Gatlinburg, Tennessee or visiting for the first time, visitors to Gatlinburg TN may be more entertained than on previous visits. Gatlinburg's summer-long street performance event features costumed musical performers, storytellers and artisans portraying time periods as far back as 1800.

Check into a cozy Gatlinburg Cabins, unpack, and head into town for an early dinner, maybe even a show. The quaint mountain town at the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park has become a vacation favorite for many.

Walk down Gatlinburg's main street and there, amidst the locals hurrying to work and the other tourists, clad in shorts, jeans, tee-shirts, and flip-flops, there are others: characters determined to lighten moods and allow visitors to travel back to their times, tell you their stories, sing you their songs!

An event like Smoky Mountain Tunes & Tales won't be found anywhere other than Gatlinburg: The 2nd Annual Smoky Mountain Tunes and Tales (June 8-September 3, 2007) event rolls into town each night via horse-drawn wagon about 5:30 pm, and as its occupants begin to circulate among the crowd, visitors are in for a night of comedy, characters, music, history, dancing, and more. Visitors witness a magical transformation of sidewalk to stage as the characters disperse along the downtown Parkway for an evening of entertainment and storytelling until 10:00 p.m. Fifteen to 20 nightly acts involve the audience as they each perform in simultaneous 15-minute productions throughout the evening.

Whirl with the Back Porch Cloggers or listen to Horse Jaw Johnny's newest lyrical composition. Enjoy the music of Goose and the Moonshine Boys and listen to Goose's stories of a moonshine still hidden in these woods. "Big Hog" a grisly but lovable mountain dweller from the 1800s can tell travelers about our history, and others in this rotating cast of 20 or more acts, will share their talents and stories of life in the mountains and the rugged days before the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Smoky Mountain Tunes & Tales is an official Gatlinburg Department of Tourism event and is one of many special events throughout the year.

Visiting Gatlinburg has become a favorite vacation activity and the Smoky Mountain Tunes & Tales (tm) activities make it even more enjoyable.
